STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A man who skipped a court appearance for a plea and sentencing hearing in Portage County in 2021 was taken into custody last month in Waukesha County.
Court records show Dawson Armstrong was arrested on June 26, almost 600 days after he skipped a November 2021 hearing for charges related to a hit-and-run incident that began in Marathon County and ended in Stevens Point.
Armstrong was accused of stealing a car in Rib Mountain then leading officers on a high-speed chase into Portage County. He crashed into a mailbox and a fire hydrant then tried to run before police arrested him.

Judge Suzanne O’Neil sentenced him to community service for theft of movable property as part of a plea deal for the Marathon County charges. He had entered a not guilty plea for the Portage County charges and was scheduled for a plea hearing on November 19th, 2021 but didn’t show.
A plea and sentencing hearing is now set for August 3rd in Stevens Point. Additionally, he will be in Waukesha County court later today for a plea and sentencing hearing for an unrelated case of fleeing or eluding an officer.
