BARRON, WI (WSAU) — A suspect is dead after they tried to evade police during a high-speed chase on Friday.
The Barron County Sheriff’s Office says they were working with the US Marshals to track down the suspect near Highway 8 in Barron. The person drove off and crashed into another vehicle.
The suspect finally stopped along the side of the highway after the crash. They were pronounced dead at the scene, with officers noting that they had a gunshot wound in their arm. A firearm was also recovered from the vehicle.
It’s unclear if that wound was self-inflicted. It should also be noted that no officers fired their weapons during the incident.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice and State Patrol are both investigating the incident. The US Marshals haven’t specified what charges the suspect was wanted for.
