BARRON COUNTY, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Barron County officials voted on Monday night to officially rename Highway SS to Officer Emily Breidenbach and Officer Hunter Scheel Memorial Highway.
“The immediate area is going to know forever, but people that come and visit us for the first time or come to move here for the first time, they’re going to know that there were two highly dedicated officers to their job that gave their lives on that highway,” said Chetek Police Chief Ron Ambrozaitis to WQOW.
The name change is effective immediately, according to Barron County officials, but it will take about 10 days for state records to be corrected. Both of the area’s police chiefs stated that the renamed route will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the new signage, but no date has been chosen at this time.
