GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Packers may have found Jordan Love’s new backup quarterback for the 2023 season.
According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston, Green Bay has signed quarterback Alex McGough of the Birmingham Stallions and USFL MVP after a “successful” workout on Tuesday.
The Seattle Seahawks originally selected McGough from Florida International in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Following his time in Seattle, McGough signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2019 season before returning to the Seahawks in 2021.
McGough ran for 403 yards and five touchdowns in addition to completing 67.4 percent of his passes for 2,104 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 10 games with the Stallions. He finished third in passing yards but led the league in touchdown passes and passer rating (108.3).
Green Bay now has four quarterbacks on the roster heading into training camp, where the battle for who will be number two on the depth chart will begin. The Packers selected former Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford in the 2023 NFL draft and also have veteran quarterback and former LSU star Danny Etling under contract.
