WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man charged with writing thousands of dollars in unauthorized checks from the healthcare clinic where he worked to himself will have a one-day trial later this year.
Christopher Gustafson was scheduled for a plea hearing on Thursday, but court records show that his attorney said they weren’t ready to proceed with the deal. A one-day jury trial was then scheduled for December 14th at 8:30 AM
Investigators say the clinic learned about the alleged thefts when they had trouble making payroll during the spring and summer of 2021. An audit suggests that Gustafson may have embezzled just over $70,000 from the company.
He faces one charge of theft in a business setting, a class G felony which could lead to ten years in prison.
A final pretrial conference and jury status hearing is set for December 5th.
