Milwaukee- (WSAU) The Milwaukee Brewers were able to tie up the series last night against the Atlanta Braves, with a comeback victory 4-3. The victorious win came to Milwaukee thanks to the debut of right fielder Sal Frelick. Frelick was the 2021 first-round draft pick from Boston. With his remarkable debut, he made history becoming the 6th player in franchise history to have 3 hits and a game-winning RBI. Not to mention he is the 1st Brewers player with multiple hits and winning RBI in his debut since Sixto Lezcano, back in 1974.
Atlanta Braves Austin Riley hit his 6th homer in the past 5 games for the Braves, but it was not enough to stop Frelick’s momentum.
Atlanta loaded the bases in the 9th off of the Brewers closer Devin Williams. Eddie Rosario singled with one out, and pinch runner Forrest Wall (who also had his first MLB debut), stole second and third. After Orlando Arcia struck out, Micheal Harris II, as well as Ronald Acuna Jr., walked to load the basses, but Williams overcame the odds and struck out Ozzie Albies for his 25th save in 27 opportunities. Meanwhile, Joel Payamps threw a scoreless 8th for the victory.
Frelick had a pair of memorable catches at the wall in the 6th to prevent extra-base hits. Austin Riley took the Braves to a 3-0 lead in the 3rd with his 22nd homer of the season. Right fielder for the Braves, Ronald Acuna, started the 3rd inning with a single up the middle and Ozzie Albies walked. Riley then sent a 0-1 pitch from Adrian Houser to center. Atlanta’s Starter Allan Winans allowed just 2 hits before trouble arose for the Braves in the 5th.
Frelick singled and Own Miller Doubled. Frelick scored on a sacrificed fly to center and Blake Perkins followed with an RBI single, causing the score to shift to 3-2. In the 6th Milwaukee tied up the game when Jesse Winker drew a one-out walk, Andruw Monasterio singled, and Frelick followed up with an RBI single to the left.
Adrian House matched his career high with 10 strikeouts, giving up only 3 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings.
