GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers held their annual shareholder’s meeting on Monday morning and made a couple of exciting announcements.
After reviewing the team’s financials and firing up the crowd for the upcoming season, team CEO Mark Murphy announced that both former players Jordy Nelson and Josh Sitton would be inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame this season.
Nelson, a 2008 second-round pick out of Kansas State, spent ten seasons in Green Bay, four of which saw him lead the team in receiving yards. Only Hall of Famer Don Hutson had more touchdown catches, and he concluded his career near the top of the Packers’ leaderboards: third in receptions and 100-yard games, fourth in 1,000-yard seasons, and fifth in overall receiving yards.
Sitton, a University of Central Florida product who was originally taken by the Packers in the fourth round (135th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft, started 112 of the team’s 121 regular-season games and all 13 of its postseason games. He had more starts (110) than any other offensive linemen for the Packers from 2009 to 2015.
He was voted the Offensive Lineman of the Year by the NFL Alumni Association in 2010 and was selected to the Pro Bowl three times (in 2012, ’14, and ’15). The Associated Press also selected him to the second team three times (in 2013–2015).
The official date for the induction ceremony has not yet been announced.
