WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Wisconsin State Patrol pilots are set to begin patrolling Marathon County to keep an eye out for traffic violations from the air this week.
According to a press release, aerial enforcement is one way to enhance public safety efforts. From the air, the state patrol says it’s much easier to spot drivers who are speeding or driving aggressively.
When a pilot observes a violation, they communicate with ground-based units to initiate a traffic stop. The State Patrol also states that its goal is to improve safety through voluntary compliance with traffic laws, not simply to stop or cite drivers.
The State Patrol will begin patrolling US 51 through Marathon County today and will also be patrolling US 53 in Eau Claire County tomorrow, along with US 45 in Langlade County on Friday.
