CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – Joe Biden is one slip-and-fall, not a health emergency – but a fall – away from no longer being a viable candidate for re-election. Biden’s age, 80, is his number one liability among his supporters. Should he stumble, like he did earlier this year at the Air Force Academy graduation, he’s done. Gavin Newsome may bring his own supply of banana peels. The movie-star California governor won’t hesitate for a moment to push the affirmative action vice president out of his way.
Last winter I was sick. My voice sounded fine, so I didn’t take any time off from work. But it was constantly fatigued. I was winded when I’d climb to the top of the bleachers for my D.C. Everest basketball broadcasts. I’m still not as good a stair climber as I was in my younger years.
When President Biden flies anywhere, he must climb up and down the portable stairway that is rolled up to Air Force One. Biden goes down the stairs gingerly, staring at his feet. When climbing up into the jet, the President usually pauses once or twice before reaching the top step. He’s slipped before, all caught on camera. Cameras are always present when the President arrives or departs from anywhere.
So, you heard it here first: I predict the Biden White House will soon solicit an airplane escalator. Oh, it would be expensive since no such thing currently exists. It would replace the stairs with an escalator. The President would stand still while the motorized steps carry him up to the door. Now such an apparatus would need to be shipped from one airport to another, but that’s no different than the presidential limousines, which travel on a separate C-17 Globemaster in advance of the President’s arrival.
If you listen to an entire Joe Biden speech, not the sound bites that are presented in the news media, you know that he has trouble assembling words into sentences. Any time he strays from his prepared remarks, what comes out of his mouth is nonsensical. It’s now becoming clear that getting Biden from one place to another is a challenge. Who’d have thought that getting there is half the fun?
