MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Occasional lottery players have been hit with over a week of mega jackpots in the two big multi-state lottery games; Powerball and Mega Millions.
That trend will continue for at least one more drawing this Friday according to Wisconsin Lottery Spokesperson Gary Kohn. That’s when a Mega Millions drawing with $910 million will be conducted.
Kohn says whenever the jackpot reaches these levels, players tend to come out of the woodwork. “Regular players play certain games certain ways but when jackpots rise the way they have you see infrequent players who see $900 million and suddenly decide to plop down $2.”
Kohn says frequent players keep lottery spending in their budget, but those who play only when the jackpots are large should double-check their bank accounts before playing a large amount given the number of opportunities that have presented themselves in two weeks. “Play within your budget. Lottery games should be a fun, inexpensive form of entertainment. But it is important to remind people regularly to play responsibly, play within your means.”
Friday’s Mega Millions drawing could increase over the next 24 hours depending on the rate of ticket sales.
