MARATHON CITY, WI (WSAU) — Village leaders in Marathon City have enlisted a consulting firm to help them hire a new Administrator.
Andy Kurtz has announced that he intends to resign from the position at the end of September. He says the time is right for a new challenge. “It’s a chance for me to go and really focus on the things I enjoy most about my job which is economic development and planning for the community. I’ll be able to work with staff and bring that growth opportunity to communities around the state.”
Last week the Village Board voted to hire a consulting firm to help advertise the position and vet candidates. Kurtz says that will save them the headache of wading through unqualified candidates and allow them to focus on those who deserve a serious look. “They’ll do a regional search, take the applications, and downselect from there and provide the board with a list of fully qualified candidates.”
It’s hard to say if the successful candidate will be on staff before Kurtz heads out for his next adventure, but he doesn’t plan to leave the Village hanging. He’s been assembling documents related to all in-progress projects for the next person and says he does plan to make himself available to spend a few days getting them up to speed both in-person and on an “on-call” basis.
“I’ll take time to share the knowledge I have about what is going on as best I can. There will always be questions about various things, so that will be part of what I get to do,” added Kurtz.
Kurtz will be taking a new job in the private sector for an engineering firm in Reedsburg. The firm does occasionally work on jobs in Central Wisconsin, so he says it is possible he could cross paths with the Village again.
Marathon City joins a growing list of Central Wisconsin communities looking for new leadership. The Village of Rothschild recently hired Ryan VanDeWalle after their former Administrator took a position at North Central Health Care. The Village of Kronenwetter has had a handful of interim Administrators since they parted ways with Richard Downey, and Weston is in the process of looking for its next Administrator as Keith Donner prepares to retire later this year.
