WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man accused of stabbing an acquaintance has a new trial date.
Jason Hopinka will face a two-day trial on February 19th and 20th for a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse modifier. Investigators say he stabbed another man in the 400 block of S 4th Avenue earlier this year.
The incident started with a call about a stabbing incident in a home, but the building was empty when they arrived. A stabbing victim turned up at a Wausau area emergency room a few hours later, and officials confirmed that they were the victim from the prior incident.
Hopinka was arrested later in the day in the Town of Ringle. The victim was treated and released for a stab wound to the face.
The 39-year-old was initially scheduled for trial in mid-August but waived his right to a speedy trial during a hearing earlier this week.
