Wisconsin Rapids, WI (WSAU)- The Wausau Woodchucks came out victorious against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters Saturday, sweeping the doubleheader, winning each game with scores of 3-2 and 5-3.
The Rafters were in first place before the faceoff against the Woodchucks in the Great Lakes West, but the Woodchucks ended up playing spoiler.
Each game they were up 2-0 early, and never fell behind on the scoreboard. Great pitching was the key to success. In game one, Henry Cone went 7.1 innings by only allowing 2 runs off 5 hits and striking out 5. Garrett Lott came in for his first save in the final with 5 outs and struck out 4.
In the second game, the Wausau Woodchucks kept up their momentum, earning them their second win of the day.
The Woodchucks face off against the Rafters for the final time this season, today at Athletic Park.
