WASHINGTON DC (WSAU) – Two new polls are making headlines after showing former President Trump ahead and tied with President Biden in key swing states.
According to Emerson College, former President Trump leads Vice President Biden 45% to 43% in Arizona. Emerson also found that Trump is tied with President Biden at 44% in Michigan.
Premise Data released a poll on Tuesday night showing that former President Trump is leading Biden nationally by 42% to 38%. When it comes to the Republican Primary, former President Trump leads Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis by 36 points, up-and-coming candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is currently in third place at 7%, and former Vice President Mike Pence is in fourth at 6%.
These polls come as President Biden’s approval of the economy continues to fall. IBD/TIPP found over the weekend that only 28% of Americans currently approve of Biden’s handling of the economy, and just 16% of adults responded that their wages have kept pace with inflation, the lowest rate since February 2022.
With the first Republican primary debate only two weeks away, several candidates have already qualified for the August 23rd debate, such as former President Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Sen. Tim Scott, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, and former Vice President Mike Pence.
Many of these candidates are currently polling at 3% or lower, according to the Morning Consult, and will likely look to draw some of former President Trump’s supporters into their camp during the debate.
