MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A Wood County man will serve 11.5 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing more than 500 grams of meth with the intent to distribute and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
US District Judge James Peterson handed the sentence to John W. Andereggen of Vesper on Wednesday. Peterson noted the “highly aggravating circumstances of the offenses, including the heavy drug amounts and the presence of dangerous weapons.” Ultimately, Judge Peterson ruled that a long sentence was needed to address the severe nature of drug and gun offenses and to protect the public from Andereggen’s criminal nature.
Charges came from a controlled purchase of methamphetamine from Andreggen that occurred in September 2022. After completing the transaction, officers obtained a search warrant for a camper that Andreggen kept in rural Wood County and used for making sales.
Officers found more than 600 grams of meth, 100 grams of cocaine, four firearms, and ammo in the structure. Andreggen also admitted to facilitating several sales in the weeks prior to the search.
Judge Peterson also noted Andreggen’s long criminal history, which spanned 33 criminal offenses from age 21 to age 56.
The arrest and takedown involved multiple law enforcement agencies from Wood, Portage, and Marathon Counties along with the Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
