GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – As the Green Bay Packers get ready to face the New England Patriots tomorrow night, GM Brian Gutekunst addressed some rumors and storylines happening around training camp.
Gutekunst started the press conference by discussing Jordan Love’s progression throughout camp, saying that he has been very impressed with his command, poise, and confidence. He also called Love’s playing in tomorrow night’s game a big step in his development.
When asked about the rumors surrounding David Bakhtiari getting traded, he simply stated, “We’re not going to trade David… That’s not going to happen.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter stated yesterday on the Pat MacAfee show that there have been no trade talks between the Packers and Jets surrounding the star left tackle, and Green Bay has no interest in moving on from him.
Gutekunst also received questions about rookie kicker Anders Carlson and how much patience the team will have with him as camp progresses, saying that rookie kickers having ups and downs is “typical” and pointing to his former mentor Ted Thompson’s patience with Mason Crosby after being drafted. He further stated that the team has not discussed bringing in any competition at kicker at this point.
He also gave his view on how rookies like Jayden Reed and Luke Musgrave have been doing so far, saying, “They’ve done a really nice job.” Gutekunst noted that rookies will continue to get plenty of opportunities throughout the season, and he’d like to see them stack success before Week 1.
The Packers and Patriots are set to kick off at Lambeau Field on Saturday at 7 p.m. CST.
