WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – A youth corrections officer was injured after being beaten by a 14-year-old inmate at the Marathon County juvenile corrections facility.
An open records request from the Wausau Pilot and Review says the incident happened in June, when the inmate was told not to sit on tables. The officer entered the area where male inmates are housed, and was punched in the face. The beating continued after the officer fell to the floor. She was repeatedly punched in the face, and was disarmed of her pepper spray.
Another officer saw the assault on a video monitor and assisted in ending the incident.
The juvenile suspect will face assault charges. Their name is not being made public because of his age.
The extent of the corrections officer’s injuries is not known. She has since returned to work.
