MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) Marshfield Utilities announced Thursday they will build a temporary PFAS removal system.
It comes after PFAS, or forever chemicals, were found in city wells during testing in April 2022. Some wells have been turned off to bring PFAS levels down.
The filtration facility will be at South 29th Street and Apple Street. The facility will be finished in early 2024.
A news release from Marshfield Utilities says: “The concrete pad & underground piping that moves water to the facility from the wells and back to the Southside Booster Station is being constructed. The installation of the PFAS removal trailer will occur later this year on the concrete pad.”
The utility says the filtration is needed because shutting down some wells has deprived the city of about 1.2-million gallons of water per day, and that water usage is likely to reach a new record.
The utility says the water is safe to drink.
