MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers scored four runs in the 8th inning to flip a 5-3 deficit into a 7-5 win over Philadelphia on Friday.
William Contreras and Carlos Santana each recorded two hits in the win. Willy Adames belted a two-run homer in the 4th.
Then in the 8th Milwaukee would load the bases for Tyrone Taylor, who drew an RBI walk to pull the Brewers within one at 5-4. Owen Miller would then reach on a fielding error to bring home three runs including Taylor who scored from first.
Tre Turner and Brandon Marsh both homered for the Phillies.
Closer Devin Williams was credited with the win. Freddy Peralta was effective over six innings in the start including 10 strikeouts but didn’t factor in the decision.
Milwaukee is now 75-59 on the season. Their magic number to clinch the NL Central sits at 25, the largest of all three National League division leaders by far. In the NL East, the Braves’ magic number over the Phillies is now 14. The Dodgers’ magic number over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West is 15.
Magic numbers factor in the record of the first-place team in the division, the record of the teams chasing them, and the number of games remaining in the season.
