Milwaukee, WI (WSAU)- Saturday night’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies was a nailbiter, but the Milwaukee Brewers overcame, beating the Phillies 7-5. Milwaukee holds a 4 1/2 game lead over the Chicago Cubs atop the National League Central.
Carlos Santana helped cinch the win last night with a 2-run homer. Mark Canha had 2 doubles and scored 2 runs while Brice Turang delivered a pair of RBI singles. Andruw Monasterio had 3 hits for Milwaukee as well.
The Brewers called upon Colin Rea from Triple-A Nashville to start in place of Adrian Houser due to forearm tightness. He allowed 2 runs and 3 hits in the 4 1/3 innings he played. Rea struck out 6 and didn’t even walk a batter.
The Phillies starter Aaron Nola was on the mound for 4 and 2/3 innings but was removed after giving up 7 runs and 8 hits. He did strike out 5 and walk 3 batters. Kyle Schwarber, J.T Realmuto, and Trea Turner homered for the Phillies and lead in the 2nd, 2-0.
The Brewers came back at the bottom of the 2nd, with 3 runs to take the lead for the rest of the game. By the 5th inning, Milwaukee’s catcher, William Contreras extended his hitting streak to a career-high 12 games with a one-out double in the 5th. Santana then drove a full-count pitch, for a lead of 5-2.
The momentum didn’t stop there, after a 2-out walk to William Adames, Mark Canha doubled him home to make the score 6-2. The Phillies then called Andrew Bellati to the mound, but Brice Turang had an RBI single, increasing the score to 7-3.
In the 6th inning the Phillies were feeling the pressure and were able to score, trimming the lead 7-3. They were able to tack on an additional runs in the 8th and 9th, but regardless of their efforts, Philadelphia could not rally.
