ANTIGO, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — There will be an added police presence around the schools in Antigo after the district and local police investigated an unsubstantiated threat.
Superintendent Glenda Oginski announced in an email to parents and staff, saying it started as a “rumor” brought to the district’s attention by a concerned parent. Police determined that the threat wasn’t credible and there was no risk to the school or students.
Oginski said the parent did the right thing by speaking up even though the threat wasn’t valid.
District leaders also encouraged everyone to be careful about what they share on social media and avoid spreading rumors that can “cause unnecessary harm and anxiety for our students, staff, and families.”
WAOW TV obtained a copy of the email, which added that extra officers would be near the school for the next few days even though no credible threat exists.
