MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A Florida man has been sentenced to 2.5 years in federal prison for kidnapping another man and taking him from Abbotsford to the Sunshine State.
The investigation started after the man’s family reported that he hadn’t returned from work. Security camera footage showed the man, only identified by his initials, got into a car with Gerardo Hernandez Anselmo. He was later found in Anselmo’s Florida home where he told investigators that he was taken against his will.
According to the complaint, the victim may have been working off a debt owed to the suspects, who brought him into the country illegally.
Anselmo was sentenced on Thursday by US District Judge William Conley. He pled guilty in June to one count of illegally transporting an alien.

Another person involved in transporting the man, Felipe Engracia-Gonzalez, was sentenced to time served and deported upon his release.
