STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A brat fry fundraiser organized by the Boys and Girls Club of Portage County has raised $20,000 for victims of this summer’s Maui wildfire.
The group raised $5,000 by selling the burgers, brats, and hot dogs last Friday out of Festival Foods’ brat stand along with $5,000 in other donations from companies and groups. The Sentry Insurance Foundation matched those funds, bringing the total amount raised to $20K.
Several businesses submitted large orders for their employees as a way of supporting the effort.
Those funds will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Maui to help them rebuild after several of their buildings were destroyed in the blaze.
Nearly $300,000 has been donated to Maui relief efforts from the Sentry Foundation and other efforts in Portage County.
Sentry has had longstanding ties to the islands through their sponsorship of a golf tournament. Those ties extend to the Boys & Girls Club through Sentry’s Connected Communities initiative.
