MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — Carlos Santana recorded two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored to lead Milwaukee to a 5-3 win over Washington Friday.
William Contreras added one hit and three RBI, with the hit coming in the form of a three-run homer in the 5th.
Both of Santana’s knocks came in the form of solo home runs, one in the 5th and one in the 8th to provide an insurance run.
Those two accounted for all of the run-scoring offense. The rest of Milwaukee’s lineup scattered a single hit here and there including Brice Turang and Sal Frelick.
Wade Miley went 5.2 innings to pick up the win despite allowing five hits and three earned runs in the first inning. That includes a home run by Lane Thomas and an RBI double from Carter Kieboom.
Devin Williams earned his 35th save by striking out the side in the 9th.
At 83-64, the Brewers’ magic number to clinch the NL Central is now 10, meaning any combination of ten wins by the Crew and ten losses by the Cubs will get the job done. Milwaukee and Washington play again tonight at American Family Field with first pitch scheduled for 6:10, pregame coverage begins at 5:35 on WSAU.
