MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The Washington Nationals salvaged their series with the Brewers following a 2-1, extra innings victory in Milwaukee.
The game was tied at one run apiece in the top of the 11th until Joey Meneses powered a sacrifice fly which scored CJ Abrams. Robert Garcia shut down the Brew Crew in the bottom half of the frame to secure the victory.
Carlos Santana drove in the lone run for Milwaukee, which slipped to 84-and-65. The Brewers are still first in the NL Central and are up by 6 1/2 games over the Cubs. They play the Cardinals in St. Louis tonight. Pre game show at 6:10.
Meanwhile, the Brewers are sending a rookie outfielder back to the minor leagues. Joey Wiemer was optioned to Triple-A Nashville yesterday.
The center fielder is hitting .204 with 13 home runs and 43 RBI in 132 games this season. Wiemer is just 2-for-28 over his last 14 games. The 24-year-old was selected by the Brew Crew in the fourth round of the 2020 draft out of Cincinnati.
Milwaukee activated outfielder Blake Perkins from the injured list in a following move. He went 0-for-2 in his return.
