MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Wisconsin Republicans have laid out a $700 million package to keep the Brewers in Milwaukee through 2050.
Rep. Robert Brooks (R) of Saukville and Sen. Dan Feyen (R) of Fond du Lac joined Speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly Robin Vos (R) of Rochester to break down their proposal, according to WTMJ. The officials stated that this effort involved people on both sides of the aisle at the state, county, and local levels while maintaining constant contact with the Brewers organization.
“[It’s] good for the taxpayers, it’s good for the state, and it’s good for the team,” Vos stated. “Those are the three things that we really focused on: making sure we have something that everybody can look at and realize it’s a win for Wisconsin.”
According to WTMJ, the Brewers organization will pledge to invest $100 million as part of the deal. The idea likewise excludes any additional funding from the typical Wisconsin taxpayer, relying instead on tax revenue derived from player salaries while also attracting investments at the city and county levels.
Republican lawmakers also stated that the original agreement and the alternatives put out by the Evers administration earlier this year would be sufficient to retain the team in Milwaukee through 2030. While Gov. Evers and the Republican officials have not had direct contacts, Rep. Brooks said that the city, county, state, and Brewers themselves have been informed of the basic ideas behind this proposal.
“It’ll go through the normal process. I anticipate some amendments and some changes, but I think we’ve got it to a really good spot,” Rep. Brooks expressed. “I think the Brewers will be releasing a statement, if they haven’t already, endorsing this package.”
The “ironclad” agreement, according to Vos, will guarantee that the Brewers remain at American Family Field through the year 2050.
