CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – The Biden Administration thinks you’re stupid. And the U.S. news media is so in-the-bag that they no longer ask tough, obvious questions.
During this week’s prisoner swap, five Americans being held in Iran were returned home. Five Iranians being held here were given up in return, and we released $6-billion in oil revenue that had been frozen under international sanctions.
Both parts of the exchange are problematic. The five Iranians all have ties to terrorist groups like Hezbolah. Iran is the number one sponsor of international terrorism, and the killers who we’ve released are thanking Allah this very moment that they get to bathe themselves in more blood. Perhaps Israel’s Mossad is tracking them now with a more permanent solution.
Giving Iran $6-billion and saying that the money will be administered through a third party, Qatar, is grossly misleading. We are told that the money will be used for humanitarian purposes only. That’s simply not true. Suppose you are helping a friend who is an alcoholic. You won’t give them money; you know they’d spend it on booze. Instead you tell them that you’ll pay their rent this month. Well, what’s the difference? They money they would have spent on the apartment is now freed up to get drunk. How is that any different than what Iran will do?
Someone ought to ask the obvious questions. Why are we always played as fools in their deals? And why does the Biden Administration explain it as if we are stupid?
