MADISON, WI (WSAU) – In Week 3, the Wisconsin Badgers easily trounced the Georgia Southern Eagles, cruising to a 35-14 victory with 28 unanswered points in the second half after falling behind 14-7 in the third.
Wisconsin struggled to move the ball during the first half, scoring just seven points. Star running back Braelon Allen had zero first-quarter carries during the first half, with his only touch being a short pass from starting quarterback Tanner Mordecai.
“I wouldn’t necessarily say I’ve struggled with [the lesser amount of carries],” Allen said when asked by the media on Tuesday. “Definitely had a different feel. I’ve always felt that as the game went on, the more carries I got, the more I was able to get into a rhythm.”
According to Bucky’s 5th Quarter’s Rohan Chakravarthi, when Allen was questioned about the game plan from Saturday and the reason he didn’t receive any touches in the first quarter, the running back was unable to provide an explanation. “I don’t know. I don’t really get the answer to that,” Allen said.
Head coach Luke Fickell spoke about Allen’s lack of playing time, saying, “Yeah, [involving Braelon Allen early] was part of the game plan. It just didn’t—sometimes you’ve got to adapt and adjust. In the first half, we couldn’t and didn’t, for whatever reason,” Fickell said. “We’ll go and take a good, hard look at it and see why.”
The Badgers will travel to Ross-Aide Stadium Friday night to face off against the Purdue Boilermakers at 6 p.m. on FS1.
