WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A recently filed law would make Kratom, a natural supplement, legal in Wisconsin.
It has the same effect as narcotic pain medicine in small doses. Republican Assemblyman John Macco, one of the bill’s authors stated, “We think it’s a great alternative to address some of the drug problems we have. It replicates opioids without having the addictive effects. So, for folks that have chronic pain, chronic issues, we think it represents a great alternative.”
Possession of Kratom is currently a misdemeanor in Wisconsin. Last year, Republican lawmakers attempted to legalize it but postponed a vote due to protests from law enforcement.
Both the FDA and the DEA have issued cautions against its use.
