MIAMI, FL (WSAU) — A massive second inning lifted Milwaukee to a 16-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Friday, securing a postseason berth for the Brewers.
Christian Yelich and Josh Donaldson both homered in the second, helping the Crew score 12 runs in the frame.
Yelich finished the day with three hits, five RBI, and four runs scored. First Baseman Carlos Santana went 3-6 with two RBI. Brice Turange and Blake Perkins each added two hits.
Willy Adames recorded one hit and two walks. He also scored three times.
Corbin Burnes went five innings to pick up his 10th win of the year. He allowed just two hits and two walks. Rowdy Tellez pitched a perfect 9th inning to close out the game, striking out one batter.
Manager Craig Counsell led a toned-down celebration in the visiting clubhouse at LoanDepot Park, giving a champagne toast to the players and front-office staff.
Milwaukee can do no better than the #3 seed in the National League Postseason, meaning they will likely host a Wild Card series at American Family Field starting October 3rd. Wild Card tickets and parking passes are on sale now through the Brewers’ website and MLB Ballpark app.
