WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Police in Wisconsin Rapids say there was no evidence of any gunshots near Mead Elementary School on Friday after teachers reported hearing “pops” while students were having recess.
WAOW TV reports that the district immediately brought everyone back inside and the day continued as normal. Once officers cleared the scene, students resumed their normal recess schedule.
Officers conducted a thorough investigation at the scene and found no sign of gun-related activity. No one was injured in the incident and school officials added that officers did everything to make sure that the area around the school was safe.
“You know our staff took it seriously. The safety of our students and staff is paramount and that’s the first thing we focus on and very appreciative of Wisconsin Rapids Police Department,” said Superintendent Craig Broeren.
As of Friday night, officers haven’t confirmed if there were any gunshots in the area, and no arrests have been made.
