WASHINGTON DC (WSAU) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican candidate for president, and California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, will soon square off on Fox News; the debate will be hosted by the network’s Sean Hannity.
According to Fox News, Hannity will interview Newsom and DeSantis on November 30 at 9 p.m.
Hannity is “looking forward to providing viewers with an informative debate about the everyday issues and governing philosophies that impact the lives of every American,” Fox said in a statement.
This announcement comes as DeSantis tries to strengthen his presidential candidacy. Former President Trump is currently ahead of DeSantis in several polls, including several conducted in Florida, the governor’s home state.
A newly released poll from NBC News shows Gov. DeSantis trails President Biden currently by one point nationally and former President Trump by 43 points in the Republican primary.
Despite his denials, many have been speculating that Newsom is considering a presidential bid. Recently, the governor of California went on a media tour and gave lengthy interviews to several television news outlets. On Sunday, he also appeared on CBS News’ 60 Minutes for a detailed discussion.
In a shocking move that further signaled his possible presidential campaign, Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed a bill that would have given judges the authority to take into account, among other things, whether a parent “affirms” a child’s “gender identity” when deciding who gets custody of the child.
The bill was opposed by Republicans and conservative organizations around the nation who said that it would have reduced parental rights and could be easily manipulated to give one parent custody of a child over the other.
