Both the Wausau City Hall and Marathon County Courthouse will be buzzing on Tuesday.
The Marathon County Board of Supervisors will take a vote on a non-binding resolution against any further COVID-19-related mandates or lockdowns from the state, a document that drew an hour of public comment at last week’s informational meeting.
The measure would encourage the Department of Health Services and lawmakers in Madison to not issue any mandates or lockdowns because of COVID-19 outbreaks. The author of the resolution, Supervisor Stacey Morache, says she wants everyone to be able to make their own decisions regarding things like getting vaccinated or wearing a face covering in public.
That meeting begins at 7 PM and public comment will not be part of the agenda. Supervisors will be able to discuss or debate amendments.
Also at 6:30, the Wausau City Council will gather to consider an amended development agreement for the former Center Mall site. According to a copy of the amendment included in Tuesday’s agenda packet, the sides have agreed to put off the groundbreaking until June 1st, 2024 with completion by November 1st, 2025.
That’s similar to a delay that was proposed back in August when the matter passed the Economic Development Committee. However, the vote was delayed at the Council level because some alders expressed a desire for a closed-session discussion on the issue. That was scheduled for a special meeting later in the month, which ultimately led to the body requesting more time to work out the agreement.
The original groundbreaking deadline was September 1st, though leaders instructed the city to not take any legal action against the developer while the two sides negotiated.
The Council will also be asked to approve a cooperation agreement between the city and WOZ for the project, though it’s unclear what that entails.
