RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — A Wausau School District bus crashed in Rib Mountain on Monday.
According to a letter sent to parents, the bus hit an unidentified object near County Highway NN and Partridge Lane. About 20 students were on the bus at the time of the crash, some were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Wisconsin State Patrol released the following statement to WAOW TV:
“Witnesses say the bus drove into the ditch, struck a stationary object, then moved back onto the roadway, pulled onto a side street, and parked. There were approximately 20 children on the bus. All of the children are being medically cleared at Aspirus in Wausau – a few children sustained minor injuries.”
The district also released a statement to parents at the Rib Mountain Elementary, saying in part:
We know today has been incredibly difficult for you and for your students following this morning’s bus crash. We’re thinking of you and we want you to know that we are here to support you and your students in any way we can.
We have trained counselors available at Rib Mountain Elementary School for the remainder of the day if you or your student would like to speak with them. In addition, they will also be on-site and available tomorrow morning.
In the meantime, we continue to work closely with the Wisconsin State Patrol and First Student, our busing company, to determine what happened.
While that work continues, please know we’re thinking of you and your students, and again, please reach out to us if you need anything at all. We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the first responders who responded quickly to help get your students the help they needed.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating the crash. No further information has been released at this time.
