STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Stevens Point District 4 Alder Mykeerah Zarazua has resigned, leaving a vacancy on the City Council for the next few months.
Mayor Mike Wiza has announced that the Council will take applications to fill the seat. Anyone interested in serving must be at least 18 years old with no prior felony convictions and live in the district. Applications should include a resume and cover letter and must be turned in to the City Clerk’s office by October 11th.
Candidates will then be interviewed by the current Alders, who will vote one of them onto the council to serve the remainder of Zarazua’s term.
“What I really hope for is candidates who want to help their neighborhood and make our community better”, said Mayor Mike Wiza. “You don’t need any special degree or background, just a desire to listen and act on behalf of your district.”
The appointment will run through the Spring 2024 election. The appointed individual will be able to run for a full term if they choose.
Nominating papers for the Spring 2024 election will be available starting December 1st, and are due back the first week of January 2024.
