MINOCQUA, WI (WSAU) — Two schools in the Lakeland Union District were put on lockdown Friday morning after a threatening message appeared on Snapchat.
It started on Friday when a student at one of the grade schools may have had a handgun and had made concerning statements on Snapchat the night before. Officers interviewed the student, who did not have a gun but did have some knives on them.
The student did tell officers that another student at the high school may have had a weapon as well. That led to a lockdown at LUH, and an interview with the named student. They did not have a weapon on them.
The lockdowns lasted for about an hour, and officers determined that there was no threat to students or staff. Information learned during the investigations led officers to believe that another weapon could be present at the Arbor Vitae-Woodruff Elementary.
The grounds of that school were searched, and no weapons were found. The parent of the student involved was also able to confirm that no weapons were missing from their home.
