MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A 27-year-old Wausau man has been sentenced to federal prison time for possession of more than 50 grams of meth with the intent to distribute.
Trenton McCorkle will serve 7 years behind bars and 5 years on extended supervision after pleading guilty to the charge earlier this year. Charges stem from a December 2021 police chase down Business 51 that ended with McCorkle’s vehicle striking a light pole. He then fled the scene before officers arrested him.
A witness reported that someone from the vehicle had thrown a bag out the window. When officers recovered it, they found a half-pound of meth, cash, a handgun, and loaded magazines inside it.
McCorkle later admitted to dealing meth in the Wausau area.
US District Judge James Peterson noted that McCorkle’s continued methamphetamine dealing not only impacted the people to whom he dealt but also contributed to the continued criminality of those above him in the world of drug trafficking. He added that McCorkle’s conduct posed a “real danger” to the public.
He was sentenced in US District Court for Western Wisconsin on Friday.
McCorkle is also facing state charges that stem from the incident. He is scheduled to make a court appearance on November 21st for those.
