MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Ebony Loeng was reunited with her missing dog after two years of separation.
Eleven years ago, Loeng first got her dog, Bella, for her daughter’s 12th birthday.
Initially, she didn’t even want a dog. “But yeah I got very attached, she’s like one of my kids and I don’t know if that’s the right thing to say but it’s literally like she’s one of my kids,” said Loeng.
Two years ago, tragedy struck, and Bella was stolen from Loeng’s backyard in Chicago. She searched for months, putting up flyers and posting on Facebook, but to no avail.
Suddenly, two years later, she got a call from Lisa, a microchip volunteer in Marshfield, Wisconsin, who said she had found her dog nearly 300 miles away. “She was in disbelief, um I was in disbelief, two years and she was crying, she got me crying she was missing her baby,” said Lisa Johnson Licht, “and she just thanked me over and over many times.”
Some good samaritans had brought Bella to MAPS after scooping her up off the side of the road. She was severely matted, missing most of her teeth, and very shaken, but she was alive.
Now Ebony has a message for all pet owners. “Get your pets microchipped definitely, this is, two years later I never thought I would be standing here with her right now,” she said.
How Bella ended up in central Wisconsin remains a mystery, but however the case, everyone is just happy to be home.
