A pair of long-awaited announcements for some in the Wausau area on Thursday.
First Spectrum is set to make an announcement regarding rural broadband access for some 1,700 Marathon County residents at 11 AM at the Stettin Town Hall. According to a media advisory from Spectrum, the investment comes thanks to the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund program.
The announcement does not specify which areas of the county are now eligible for service. Rural areas of Marathon County have long struggled with getting reliable high-speed internet service.
Congressman Tom Tiffany and Wisconsin Senator Cory Tomczyk will be on hand for the announcement.
Then at approximately 5 PM the first Avelo plane will land at the Central Wisconsin Airport to take travelers from the Mosinee facility to Orlando.
According to the airport, the plane will be treated with a water cannon salute from the CWA fire trucks.
Avelo announced they would be adding service from CWA back in July, starting with a single route to Orlando on Thursdays and Sundays. Some Tuesday flights have been added from Thanksgiving to early January 2024 due to demand.
The addition of Avelo comes after the airport lost service from United more than a year ago. That sent the airport looking for a low-cost carrier to add flights to vacation destinations.
