WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – As Halloween approaches, the Wausau Paranormal Research Society is set to host their annual haunted walking tours around downtown Wausau next weekend.
According to a flyer from the society, the tours will begin on October 13th and October 20th at 6 p.m. at the Elk’s Lodge. The group will also be hosting tours at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Fridays. Tickets can be purchased by messaging the group on Facebook, and payment for both Friday night tours can be completed through Venmo.
The group will also host Saturday tours on the 14th and 21st. Tickets for those nights will be available for purchase at the time of the tours, which will begin at the Elk’s Lodge.
Wausau Paranormal Society Director Shawn Blaschka spoke about the impact the tours have on the community, saying, “We enjoy it. We enjoy telling people these stories and educating them on what we’ve investigated, what we know, and what we’ve found out about some of the places. We also like helping out the community as well as giving back to the community; certainly, the tours help fund our group so it can go throughout the year because we don’t charge for investigating anywhere, so we work off those funds, but a lot of that money is also given back to the community.”
The group has investigated businesses and private homes all over the state over the past two decades. They also authored the book “Haunted Wausau: The Ghostly History of Big Bull Falls” back in 2011, which provides readers with the history and first-hand experiences the group has had during their investigations.
Blaschka stated that the group has seen the most activity during their investigations at the former Rogers Theater, now the Filmore, and also at the Elk’s Lodge, not far from the Filmore. The guides will recount some of the evidence they’ve gathered throughout the years during the tours while also providing a brief history of the locations at each stop. One of the experiences they may include is the story of a Class A EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) they recorded during an investigation back in 2005 on the second floor of the former Rogers Theater of what sounds like a woman singing the phrase “pray for you”.
