ROTHSCHILD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Native American Heritage Day was celebrated with a large regional pow-wow in Rothschild on Sunday.
“We’re celebrating Native American Heritage Month, Native American Heritage Day, were given a day to throughout the year and we celebrate that by coming together in song and dance and celebrating our lives together and enjoying each other in a brotherhood,” said Dylan Prescott Master of Ceremonies.
Not only are they incredibly tied in, but Native American’s also are constantly helping keep Central Wisconsin land the way it should be by educating those about the land and preserving it.
“We take care of the land we’re working with the water and also we help educate you know our nonnatives about the land, how it is here, and how things work and how it’s always been and how to take care of mother earth you know that’s our main goal as Native American people to this day,” said Prescott.
The powwow on Sunday was a unique event and this exact one only happens once a year.
The powwow began with a great grand entry and concluded with more songs and dances to truly show off their community.
