WASHINGTON DC (WSAU) – The White House has officially confirmed a total of 11 U.S. citizens have been killed in Israel during the Hamas terror attacks over the weekend.
President Joe Biden released a statement on Monday afternoon, saying, “It’s heartbreaking. These families have been torn apart by inexcusable hatred and violence. We also know that American citizens still remain unaccounted for, and we are working with Israeli officials to obtain more information as to their whereabouts. My heart goes out to every family impacted by the horrible events of the past few days. The pain these families have endured, the enormity of their loss, and the agony of those still awaiting information are unfathomable.”
On Monday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Iran was personally involved in the heinous attack Hamas committed against Israel. Deputy National Security Advisor Jonathan Finer did not corroborate the report. He replied, “We’re looking into it, but at this time we are unable to corroborate it.”
Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s post on X, in which he expressed support for a truce following Hamas strikes on Israel, has since been removed. It was the second position the Biden administration had taken down from X since the onslaught by Hamas from Gaza began.
“Turkish Foreign Minister [Hakan Fidan] and I spoke further on Hamas’ terrorist attacks on Israel. I encouraged Tükiye’s advocacy for a cease-fire and the release of all hostages held by Hamas immediately,” Blinken said in the post on Sunday before deleting it.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, and President Joe Biden spoke on Sunday. According to Axios, during the call, Netanyahu asserted that Israeli forces “have to go” into Gaza and foresaw a “long and difficult war.”
At this time, at least 2,500 Israelis have been injured, and about 800 Israeli deaths have been formally counted.
