It’s not a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Wisconsin Rapids’ newest public park.
City leaders will gather on Wednesday at the new Dog Park on Saratoga Street for a ceremonial leash cutting- symbolically letting the dogs run free in a 10-acre space between 24th and 25th Street North.
Mayor Shane Blaser will oversee the ceremony which will include the unveiling of the park’s name. That was selected through a name-the-park contest. The finalists include:
• Rapids Park and Bark Dog Park
• Rapids Barks and Rec Dog Park
• Rapids Room to Zoom Dog Park
The leash-cutting ceremony will take place at 4:30. The park will formally open to the public immediately after. City leaders note that the park has been funded in part through room tax dollars, and they are also encouraging private groups to make donations and fundraise to help install features such as agility equipment, picnic shelters, and other toys for dogs.
The park has no formal address yet.
