MEDFORD, WI (WSAU) — The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office has located a man believed to be running a blacktop paving scam targeting the elderly.
Brandon Ferguson recently swindled a resident out of an undisclosed amount of money by claiming his company, Community Blacktop LLC, had leftover pavement from a large job. He then offered to perform work for a resident at a discounted rate.
After securing an agreement, Ferguson then used different tactics to strong-arm the client into paying more than was originally quoted.
Officers say that Ferguson used a Michigan ID identifying himself as Daniel P. Mickelson of Iron River to cash a check from the Taylor County victim at a bank in Medford. His company may also operate under the name MVP Valued Paving.
Similar incidents involving Ferguson have also been reported in Abbotsford and Eau Claire. Officers add that his operation may also travel nationally, but his business address is from Hastings, Minnesota.
Potential charges against him in Taylor County include identity theft and fraud against a financial institution. It’s unclear when Ferguson may make a court appearance.
