MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Badgers got bad news on the injury front on Monday morning, as starting quarterback Tanner Mordecai is expected to miss time after having surgery on his broken hand.
According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Mordecai ‘is likely to be out for the immediate future.
He suffered the injury after completing a pass to wide receiver Will Pauling late in the second quarter of Saturday’s loss to Iowa when his hand brushed into an Iowa player’s helmet. Mordecai continued to play for one more down before appearing to say, “I can’t throw,” to the sidelines.
“I can’t throw.”
Never the sentence you want to hear your quarterback utter.

The rest of the game was played by Mississippi State transfer freshman Braedyn Locke, who completed 15 of 30 throws for 122 yards and one interception. With Locke in for the remainder of the game, Wisconsin managed just six points and could not take advantage of Iowa’s 70 total second-half yards.
Locke was a three-star quarterback out of high school and the number 22 quarterback in the class of 2022. He set the Class 6A Texas state record with 128 career passing touchdowns and 11,182 career passing yards.
