WASHINGTON DC (WSAU) – The Daily Caller News Foundation reported that several pro-Palestinian protestors were detained during a demonstration outside the White House.
Protesters from Palestinian advocacy groups gathered on Monday and requested a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. Some of the demonstrators referred to Israel as an “apartheid” and “genocidal” state, as the DCNF reported from the scene. The United States Secret Service detained over thirty protestors who attempted to open the White House’s gates.
“This afternoon, more than 30 individuals were arrested by the U.S. Secret Service’s Uniformed Division for unlawful entry or incommoding after crossing safety barriers or blocking entrances during a demonstration at the White House complex,” Secret Service Special Agent Steve Kopek told the DCNF. “There was no impact on White House security operations. The individuals have been transported to the Metropolitan Police Department’s 2nd District for processing.”
One protester shouted over a loudspeaker, “We have shut down the White House at every door,” the DCNF noted. The protestors sprinted towards the gate that opens onto the West Wing’s driveway while jumping over barriers, but they did not reach the building.
“We needed to be here to block the sale of the biggest package of weapons to Israel and to raise awareness,” a protester told the Daily Caller while seated in handcuffs.
This incident comes after a Wall Street Journal article that stated that approximately 2,000 U.S. troops had been instructed to get ready for a potential deployment to Israel. These troops would include the tens of thousands of soldiers already stationed in the Middle East and Europe. According to the article, it is unclear how many would enter Israel.
According to the report, “they aren’t intended to serve in a combat role, the officials said. No infantry have been put on a prepare-to-deploy order.”
Unknown numbers of Americans are still being held captive in Gaza after Hamas terrorist strikes in southern Israel left more than 1,300 people dead and more than 100 people missing.
