WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The American Red Cross is hosting its annual “Sound the Alarm” event this Saturday to help those who need new or updated fire alarms get them for free.
The group has installed more than 1,000 smoke alarms and has served more than 13,000 total homes since the program began.
Executive Director Kathryn Halverson says now is the perfect time to ensure your alarms are updated, saying, “October is fire prevention month, and so far in the Wisconsin region, since July 1st, we’ve seen more than 179 fires, and specifically in our area, about 14, and really, smoke alarms are the difference in saving lives.”
The event will run from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at NorthStar Restoration, located at 4900 Stewart Ave. in Wausau. Anyone interested in volunteering or signing up to receive the free alarm and installation can do so at Redcross.org/wi.
