Gospel TLC
CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – If you’re a regular listener, you’ve heard me talk about the Gsopel TLC. It is a 12 to 18-month program for the addicted. The goal is to transform lives through faith. Instead of addicts reoffending and landing back in jail, they might become the people God intended them to be.
There is no other program like this in the area. There’s room for 16 men at a time. The first residents will move into a beautifully furnished building on Cross Point Boulevard in Weston on Monday.
My friends, it is in everyone’s best interest that this program succeeds. Nothing is gained to have just-parolled addicts living under the bridge. I’m willing to risk some of my time and treasure on the possibility that some of these men might, indeed, transform their lives. Those who succeed will become better citizens, better employees, better husbands and fathers. Perhaps some of them will go back to the Gospel TLC to help the next group that comes through the program.
I hope I’ve convinced you that the Gospel TLC is worth your support. Here are three specific ways you can help:
First, consider becoming a monthly donor. No amount is too large or too small. Regular monthly givers are the most important way to support the program. People who give consistently each month allows the center to make an accurate estimate of how much money they have coming in, which will help them balance how much money is going out. They won’t have to manage the program from one shortfall to another.
Second, the men at the Gospel TLC will prepare meals and eat together. They need food. They would also like community groups or other churches to provide a group meal on the weekend. I hope to share a grocery list each week. If you’re willing to buy a few extra groceries, your food donation will not go to waste. Some of things they need for their kitchen include a electric can opener, dutch ovens, a rice cooker, a large coffee maker, large pots and pans, warming plates and bread maker.
Lastly, there are many people listening right now who have beaten their own addictions. Are you willing to share your story? Those who arrive at the Gospel TLC have no idea how they will leave drugs and alcohol behind. Hearing from others who have – or being mentored by someone like you – would be a tremendous message of hope.
My prayer is that the holy spirit will gently touch you today, and that you will do what you can to support the Gospel TLC.
