GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, Packers safety Darnell Savage and cornerback Eric Stokes will be placed on injured reserve after Savage suffered a calf injury and Stokes a hamstring injury on Sunday against the Denver Broncos.
The veteran safety and cornerback will need to miss at least four games before they’re eligible to return after being placed on injured reserve, even though neither injury is expected to be season-ending. Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, Los Angeles Chargers, and Minnesota Vikings are the teams they won’t be playing.
This season, Savage has played 51 special teams snaps and 344 defensive snaps.
In Savage’s absence, the Packers are expected to turn to rookie Anthony Johnson Jr. or Jonathan Owens next to Rudy Ford at safety for the upcoming month. Meanwhile, Stokes is heading to the IR after starting the season on the PUP list.
The Green Bay Packers announced that they will add Corey Ballentine to the 53-man roster on Wednesday by signing him from the practice squad, according to SI.com’s Bill Huber.
Ballentine has given up just four receptions for 50 yards on six targets this season on 41 total coverage snaps. He also recorded a pass breakup.
