SCHOFIELD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) D.C. Everest and Wausau schools are working together to protect students’ mental health.
The two came together to bridge the gap between school staff, the community and students.
They wanted visitors to get a feeling for what students have to go through, even going as far as to make a mock school day because of how much things have changed since many of these adults were in high school. Both school systems came together to show how valuable it is to understand mental health in youth. “We have people from across all sectors participating. Really, a day for staff in a variety of different roles to make choices about how to learn more to make connections with kids,” said Casey Nye, D.C. Everest Superintendent.
In total about 40 different local groups were involved in the event. The event took two years of collaborative work, and had so many sessions, they had to spread them out between the D.C. Everest and Wausau school districts.
